Apart for Valentine Day

I hope you are having a great Valentines Day! Between military duties and work commitments, my husband and I don't spend Valentines Day together very often. It's apart of life as a military family. Long distance relationships can be hard, but it's even harder when your love one is in the front lines and communications are spotty at best.

How do you express your love to one another when you are apart? I often use 1 Cor 13:4-7 as a guide:

"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on is own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong doing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

What that means to me is that I will wait patiently while I'm apart from my husband until we are together again; that I won't insist on doing things my way; speak kindly; pray earnestly for him; rejoices when we are together again.

Some days it seems hard to love. At times when it seems like it is impossible to love, I'm reminded from Mark 10:27 that “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” Never give up. It may feel like a struggle at times, but overtime the love deepens and it becomes as sweet as honey.

Happy Valentines day!
