Happy Chinese New Year! This year is the year of the rabbit. The Rabbit, or Hare as he is referred to in Chinese mythology, is the emblem of longevity and is said to derive his essence from the moon.
When I lived in Hong Kong as a child, there was lots of lavish celebrations during Chinese New Year. It's a lot like Christmas in the US with decorations, visiting friends and family, exchanging gifts and eating a lot of good food. Here in the U.S. the celebrations is much more understated, but you can still see the festivities within your local Chinese communities.
Locally in Central New York, Syracuse University will be hosting the Spring Festival Gala on Friday, Feb. 4, in the Schine Student Center’s Goldstein Auditorium. The Central New York Chinese School will also be hosting a New Year Celebration on Saturday, Feb. 6, in Eagle Mill Middle School. These events are a great way to be introduced to the Chinese culture and meet some great friends along the way, so come join us to celebrate Chinese New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year to you too! Wish I could see the lively celebrations in China/HK but hoping to see some dragon/lion dances in NYC this weekend. The two local celebrations sounds awesome to attend!
